Prevention Programming and Community Services

The Battlefords & Area Sexual Assault Centre provides various research-based programs to help communities combat the issues of normalized sexual violence, sexual abuse, and exploitation. These programs are delivered by our counsellors. BASAC is committed to working with school systems, businesses, and other community based organizations in our service area. Our programming includes:

‘No, Exit, Tell’: The main focus is to introduce appropriate and inappropriate touching and to educate children on ways they can keep themselves safe and to understand that no one should keep secrets of a bad touch.

‘Healthy Friendships’: Is a presentation that expresses what a healthy friendship should be like with a focus on the sexual awareness aspect (i.e. appropriate/inappropriate touches, good and bad secrets).

‘Healthy Youth Relationships’: Is a presentation for older students, which has more emphasis on signs of physical, verbal, mental, or emotional abuse. The main focus is to provide youth with the resource material needed to help themselves, friends, or a loved one that may be experiencing an unhealthy relationship.

‘Girl Power’: Is a 10 week program for adolescent girls between the ages of 9 and 12 years old.  Girl power is a preventative program in that it introduces girls to concepts and skills prior to difficult issues typically faced by teens.  This is an empowering program that is aimed to lift the confidence of adolescent girls by helping them to understand media images and social expectations of women in the world today.

‘2BBoys’: Is an 8 week program designed to assist boys in connecting to their true selves in an empowering, respectful, healthy, and dynamic way.  The program focuses on building skills to help boys excel socially and emotionally. BASAC can meet the needs of various issues surrounding sexual assault/abuse. Educational facilities that have requested presentations for their staff members on how to handle disclosures have also been done in the past as well.

The Battlefords & Area Sexual Assault Centre gives recognition to the Community Initiatives Fund for their generous contribution to the ‘Girl Power’ and ‘2BBoys’ programs.
